TAV Airports Takes Over The Domestic Terminal At Izmir…

 

Having won the bid for one of the most important infrastructure projects of Izmir, construction of the Domestic Terminal of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and operation rights including the International Terminal until 2032, TAV Airports will begin operating the Domestic Terminal at 01.00 on Monday, January 2nd, 2012. All domestic flights will be taking place from the International Terminal during the process of building the new Domestic Terminal to replace the existing one. All domestic passengers shall utilize the International Terminal beginning at 01.00 on Monday, January 2nd, 2012.

TAV Airports is taking over the operation of the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport Domestic Terminal as of 01.00 on Monday, January 2nd, 2012 as per the contract it signed with the State Airports Authority. In addition to the amount of 610 million Euros + VAT which will be paid to the State Airports Authority (DHMI) as required by the contract, TAV Airports will also be investing a further 250 million Euros for the construction of the Domestic Terminal at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. All domestic flights shall take place at the International Terminal until the new Domestic Terminal is put into operation.

TAV Izmir General Manager Erkan Balcı stated; “We are taking over the operation of the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport Domestic Terminal, to take effect in the New Year. During this process, we will be transferring all domestic flights to the International Terminal. Passengers shall use the International Terminal until the construction of the new terminal is completed. All measures have been taken to ensure that passengers complete their flight related procedures easily and quickly during this process at the International Terminal, which is equipped to provide sufficient area to host both domestic and international passengers. Passengers will be able to access the gates comfortably by following the domestic and international flight signs provided within the terminal building, which is now divided into two sections. With the new Domestic Terminal, we will be doing our utmost to provide the citizens of Izmir with an invaluable asset. Our work will accelerate shortly in order to increase the potential of Izmir’s air transportation.”

TAV Airports won the tender held by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority on the 17th of November 2011 for the operating rights of the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal, CIP, Domestic Terminal and auxiliary operations through a lease with the highest bid of 610 million Euros + VAT. TAV Airports outstripped all other bidders with the bid it submitted for the operation rights until 2032. As part of the tender for the International Terminal, CIP, Domestic Terminal and auxiliary operations, TAV Airports will be building a new Domestic Terminal to replace the existing one with an investment of 250 million Euros. The Domestic and International Terminals will then be connected to each other through a bridge system similar to the one at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. According to DHMI data, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport provided services to 7,954,000 passengers in the first 11 months of 2011, a 14% increase compared to the same period of 2010.
